¹ Therefore, as the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus is making$ and immersing$ more disciples than John,

² (although Jesus himself was not immersing$, but his disciples did),

³ he left Judea and went away into Galilee.

⁴ Now it was essential for him to go through Samaria. {Joh 4:5-43 Jacob’s Well and at Sychar; no parallel.}

⁵ Therefore, he comes to a city of Samaria, called$ Sychar, close to the parcel of ground which Jacob gave to his son Joseph,

⁶ and Jacob’s well was there. Therefore, Jesus has labored from the journey, and was sitting thus upon the well. It was approximately the sixth hour {i.e., Noon} .

⁷ A woman from Samaria comes to dip-out water. Jesus says to her, Give to me some water to drink.

⁸ For$ his disciples had gone away into the city, in-order-that they might buy various nourishments.

⁹ Therefore, the Samaritan woman says to him, How do you, being a Jew, ask to drink from me, being a Samaritan woman? (For$ Jews have no dealings together-with Samaritans.)

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, Give to me some water to drink; you would have asked him, and he would have given living water to you.

¹¹ The woman says to him, Lord, you have no bucket and the well is deep. Therefore, from where do you have the living water?

¹² You are not greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank out-of it himself and his sons and his livestock, are you?

¹³ Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again

¹⁴ but whoever may drink from the water which I will be giving him should never be thirsty forever, but the water which I will be giving him will become in him a well of water leaping up to everlasting life.

¹⁵ The woman says to him, Lord, give this water to me in-order-that I may not be thirsty, nor come here to dip-out water.

¹⁶ Jesus says to her, Proceed-away, summon your husband, and come here.

¹⁷ The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus says to her, You said well, I have no husband,

¹⁸ for$ you had five husbands, and he whom you have now is not your husband. You have said this, a true$ thing.

¹⁹ The woman says to him, Lord, I view that you are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you° Jews say, In Jerusalem is the place where it is essential to worship.

²¹ Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, the hour is coming, when you° will be worshiping the Father, neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem.

²² You° worship what you° do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews.

²³ But the hour is coming and now is, when the true$ worshipers will be worshiping the Father in spirit and truth; for$ the Father also is seeking such who are worshiping him.

²⁴ God is a Spirit, and it is essential for the ones worshiping him to worship in spirit and truth.

²⁵ The woman says to him, I know that the Messiah is coming (he who is called$ Christ). Whenever he comes, that man will be proclaiming all things to us.

²⁶ Jesus says to her, I am he, who is speaking to you.

²⁷ And his disciples came upon this, and marveled that he was speaking with a woman; nevertheless, no one said, What are you seeking? Or, Why are you speaking with her?

²⁸ Therefore, the woman left her water pot and went away into the city, and says to the men,

²⁹ Come-here°. Behold°, a man who told me all things, as many things as I did$. This is not the Christ, is it?

³⁰ They went forth out-of the city and were coming toward him.

³¹ But in the time in between, the disciples were asking him, saying, Rabbi, eat.

³² But he said to them, I have food to eat which you° do not know.

³³ Therefore, the disciples were saying to one another, Someone did not bring him anything to eat, did they?

³⁴ Jesus says to them, My food is that$ I should do$ the will of the one who sent me, and should complete his work.

³⁵ Do you° not say, There are still four months and then the harvest comes. Behold, I am saying to you°, Lift° up your° eyes and look° at the farmlands, because they are already white for the harvest.

³⁶ And he who is reaping receives wages and gathers fruit to everlasting life; in-order-that he who is sowing and he who is reaping may rejoice also in unison.

³⁷ For$ the true$ word is in this, Another is he who is sowing and another is he who is reaping.

³⁸ I sent you° forth to reap what you° have not labored; others have labored, and you° have entered into their labor.

³⁹ Now many out-of the Samaritans from that city believed into him, because of the word of the woman, who was testifying, He told me all things, as many things as I did$.

⁴⁰ Therefore, as the Samaritans came to him, they were asking him to abide with them, and he remained there two days.

⁴¹ And many more believed because of his word;

⁴² and they were saying to the woman, We believe no longer because of your speech; for$ we ourselves have heard, and know, This is truly the Savior of the world, the Christ.

⁴³ Now after the two days, he went forth from there and went into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For$ Jesus himself testified, A prophet has no honor in his own fatherland. {Luk 4:14a & Joh 4:44-45 Arrival in Galilee.}

⁴⁵ Therefore, when he came into Galilee, the Galileans accepted him, who have seen all the things which he did$ in Jerusalem at the feast; for$ they themselves also went to the feast. {Joh 4:46-54 Cana; no parallel.}

⁴⁶ Therefore, Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where he made$ the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick in Capernaum.

⁴⁷ This one heard that Jesus is coming out-of Judea into Galilee, and went toward him, and was asking him in-order-that he might come-down and might heal his son; for$ he was about to die.

⁴⁸ Therefore, Jesus said to him, If you° do not see signs and wonders, you° should never believe.

⁴⁹ The nobleman says to him, Lord, come-down here before my child is to die.

⁵⁰ Jesus says to him, Travel on; your son lives. And the man believed the word in which Jesus spoke to him, and he was traveling on.

⁵¹ And already while going-down, his bondservants encountered him and reported, saying, Your boy lives.

⁵² Therefore, he inquired from them the hour in which he had improved. And they said to him, The fever left him yesterday in the seventh hour {i.e., 1:00 PM} .

⁵³ Therefore, the father knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Your son lives. And he himself, and his whole house believed.

⁵⁴ This is again the second sign that Jesus did$, when he went out-of Judea into Galilee. {Joh 5:1-47 Jerusalem probably the Passover; no parallel.}
