Supplement: (dip under, submerge, make fully wet. This Greek word, all its compounds and derivatives were common to the Greeks and was used daily to describe a ‘bath, ’ ‘washing (soaking) dishes or clothes, ’ 'dying cloth', to the Jews ‘ceremonial washing’ and starting with John the Immerser a New Testament commandment 'baptism. ’ A part of the Great Commission to teach and “immerse” disciples in Mat_28:19-20 / Mar_16:15-16. (Baptism is the transliteration of this word; the translation is 'immersion'.) In the New Testament it is even described as a 'burial' in Rom_6:1-6. Thayer in his lexicon 'εις αφεσιν αμαρτιων, to obtain the forgiveness of sins, Act_2:38')
