Matthew 10

1 And having called his twelve disciples, he gave to them authority over unclean spirits, so-that they are able to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every illness.
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: the first is Simon, who is called* Peter and Andrew his brother; James and John his brother, the sons of Zebedee; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus and Lebbaeus who was surnamed Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite {Or: zealot. See Luk 6:15, Acts 1:13.} and Judas the Iscariot, who gave him up to the Jews. 5 Jesus sent forth these twelve apostles and commanded them, saying, Do* not go into any road of the Gentiles and do* not enter into any city of the Samaritans; 6 but travel* rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 Now while you* are traveling, preach*, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near. 8 Heal* the sick; cleanse* the lepers; cast* out demons; freely you* received, freely you * give. 9 Do* not procure gold, nor silver, nor brass coins *for your* money belts; 10 no knapsack *for your * journey, neither two tunics nor shoes nor staffs; for* the worker is worthy of his nourishment. 11 Now into whatever city or village you* enter, probe* out who is worthy in it, and abide* there until you* should go. 12 Now while entering into the house, greet* it. 13 And if indeed the house is worthy, let your* peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your* peace return to you*. 14 And whoever did not accept you*, nor heard your* words, while you* are going forth from that house or that city, shake-off* the dust from your* feet. 15 Assuredly I am saying to you*, It will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city. 16 Behold, I am sending you* forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore, become* prudent like serpents and harmless like doves. 17 But take-heed*, stay away from men; for* they will be giving you* up to councils, and they will be scourging you* in their synagogues; 18 and you* will also be led in front of governors and kings because of me, *for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But whenever they give you* up, do* not be anxious how or what you* should speak; for* it will be given to you* in that hour what you* will be speaking. 20 For* it is not you* who speaks, but the Spirit of your* Father who speaks in you*. 21 Now brother will be giving up brother to death and the father his child and children will be standing up against parents and will be slaying them. 22 And you* will be hated by all men because of my name. But he who has endured to the end, this one will be saved. 23 But whenever they persecute you* in this city, flee* into another; for* assuredly I am saying to you*, You* may never* complete the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man should come. 24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a bondservant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that* he should become like his teacher and the bondservant like his lord. If they called the householder Beelzebub, how much more the kinfolk! 26 Therefore do* not fear them; for* there is nothing hidden, which will not be revealed, and nothing secret, which will not be known. 27 What I am speaking to you* in the darkness, speak* in the light, and what you* hear in your * ear, preach* upon the housetops. 28 And do* not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are two sparrows not sold for a copper coin? And not one out of them will be falling to the earth without your* Father knowing it; 30 but even the hairs of your* head are all numbered. 31 Therefore do* not fear, because you* are carrying more-value than many sparrows. 32 Therefore, everyone who will confess to be in me before men, I will also confess to be in him before my Father, who is in the heavens. 33 But whoever denies me before men, I will also be denying him before my Father who is in the heavens.
34 Do* not suppose that I came to cast peace upon the earth; I did not come to cast peace, but a sword. 35 For* I came to pit man against his father and the daughter against her mother and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and, 'A man's enemies will be his own kinfolk. ' {Mic 7:6} 37 He who loves his father or mother above me is not worthy of me, and he who loves his son or daughter above me is not worthy of me. 38 Now he who is not taking up his cross and following after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He who has found his life will be losing it, and he who has lost his life because of me will be finding it. 40 He who accepts you*, accepts me; and he who receives me, receives the one who sent me. 41 He who accepts a prophet in the name of a prophet, will be receiving a prophet's reward, and he who accepts a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, will be receiving a righteous man's reward. 42 And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to drink to one of these little ones, in the name of a disciple, assuredly I am saying to you*, He may never* lose his reward.
